Vehicle Inspections and Other Related Information

If your vehicle inspection sticker has expired, you are considered to be moving in violation of the law in Massachusetts. The violation could impact your insurance rate if you receive a ticket. A violation of the Massachusetts Failed Inspection Law may void or cancel a motor vehicle contract or sale within seven days after it has been sold if you believe it will need repairs or has safety-related defects exceeding 10% of the contract price.

A black "R" means your vehicle failed its emissions test. If your vehicle has a red "R," it has failed its safety inspection or both.
